NaGuanda Nobles

Nobles proved an expressive actress, but it was with her stellar voice that she made an impact. Her soprano radiates roundly, with no apparent rough edges. It's a credit to Nobles that her Mimi was a powerful presence throughout, yet she kept that power understated in order to sell the idea of a frail and dying consumptive.
In the end, it was Nobles' appearance in this production that was memorable. Her radiant soprano portends a bright career, and it elevated this production from the ordinary.

"In her Dayton debut as little Liu, NaGuanda Nobles displays a surprisingly big, warm soprano with a lovely shimmering top that she uses to ravishing effect in her two major arias. She offers a winning combination of beauty and intensity in her singing. Her death provides one of the most gripping moments of the production, and her return to the stage at the end of the performance prompted a standing ovation".

How wonderful it was to hear NaGuanda Nobles portray Mimi in three excerpts from the third and fourth acts of "Boheme." She's been delightful this season in comic roles in "Ormindo" and "The Magic Flute," but really blossomed in the lush romanticism of Giacomo Puccini's music.

Who attending didn't wish that Mozart and his librettist Emanuel Schikaneder had introduced Papageno's wife, Papagena, earlier in the opera after seeing NaGuanda Nobles excel in the role? She captured the silly yet sexy birdwoman with ease, and the duo was fun to watch.

A chorus from Mozart's "Idomeneo" began awkwardly but then jelled and benefited midway from the melting solo lines of soprano NaGuanda Nobles.
Among the Opera Center soloists, soprano Nobles was clearly the star. Her creamy voice has a recognizable timbre, with a distinctive edge that carries. She just doesn't sound like any other soprano. She has a solid technique, and she phrases with maturity and eloquence. Her rendition of Madama Butterfly's "Un bel di" was something quite special.

the “Gospel measure” of Robert Ray proved despite the huge rejoicing voice by NaGuanda Miller not straight drawn from the “Soul OF America”, but rather skillfully impressive with it.
